Post image for An Almost Free Lunch

They say there is no such thing as a free lunch, but this one comes very close.

I was walking around my garden on Saturday and noticed that two cos lettuces had popped up. Caesar salad immediately came to mind, and seeing as a I hadn’t had a REALLY GOOD Caesar salad in quite a while, I whipped one up for lunch.

I had cos lettuce & lemons from the garden (free), eggs from our girls (free) and I had bacon & parmesan in the fridge (which I had to pay for!). I also had the crusty ends of bread in the freezer to make the croutons with.

Home made Caesar Salad

The Caesar salad was so fresh & so delicious! It went down a treat with the family. I have a little bit of Caesar dressing left over – perhaps it will be the cook’s treat for lunch today…..I can’t wait!

Eat it…..Parsley

Recipes
Gremolata Ingredients

With a plentiful supply of parsley in my garden  I have been looking for ways to utilise it more in my cooking. Tabbouli salads are a great way of using up parsley, but cucumbers & tomatoes aren’t in season here in Sydney….. It has been the wettest July in over 60 years here in Sydney! One month’s rain fell in just 2 days. Our yard is now a ‘gumboot only zone’ and we have had to put down lots of straw so our ‘chooky girls’ (as they are very affectionately known) have dry feet. BUT even with [...]

The weather has been amazing here in Sydney lately. Beautiful sunny days! As a result, my Autumn garden is looking lovely. I am being rewarded for all of the preparation work I did in the garden in February. On the weekend we harvested jerusalem artichokes, butternut pumpkins and ginger. Our snow peas are just starting to produce [...]
